Dr. Ferguson is a 1998 graduate with Honors from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, followed up with an internship in large animal medicine and surgery at the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. After several years in private practice in small animal, mixed animal and equine practice in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Florida, she completed a residency in large animal internal medicine at Purdue University. A short stint in a PhD program at the University of Georgia Infectious Diseases' program made Dr. Ferguson realize that her interest lay primarily in practice. After a stint as an owner of a mixed animal practice in rural Lexington, GA, Dr. Ferguson moved back to Florida and worked at SPCA Florida and Hillsborough County Animal Services prior to moving to Lee County. After 9 years as a veterinarian at Lee County Domestic Animal Services, she returned to private practice as a contract veterinarian and is now dedicating 3-4 days a week to North Shore Animal Hospital.

Dr. Ferguson's primary areas of interest include preventative medicine, most soft tissue surgeries, parasitology, one health medicine, dentistry, animal welfare, veterinary forensic sciences, animal behavior, animal ethics, internal and emergency medicine, among others! Dr. Ferguson is in the process of completing a MSc in International Animal Welfare, Law and Ethics at the University of Edinburgh.
